RAMB: New phase, new directions

RUMOS
In its constant challenges towards evolution and impro-
vement, the RAMB is starting 2014 in a new phase, with
innovations, seeking to strengthen and consolidate itself
as one of the most important national scientiic journals.
Members, subscribers and authors that received the
irst edition of the year were already able to note the dif-
ference in the layout caused by the replacement of Else-
vier by Manole Publisher, a reference for over 40 years in
the book publishing market in different areas, and which
will now be responsible for producing, reviewing and prin-
ting the journal.
Other news is that the RAMB is returning to its ori-
ginal website for the submission of scientiic articles (www.
ramb.org.br). Previously hosted on an Elsevier platform,
from this year on it will be part of the SGP – Sistema de
Gestão de Publicações (Publication Management System)
that provides complete monitoring of articles during the
evaluation process. Like the previous platform, the pro-
cess speeds up the procedure – from submission to ap-
proval or rejection of the article – providing precious time
savings due to its valuable control tools, as well as coun-
ting of deadlines, productivity reports, registration of
messages, comments and the history of each article. This
system, which includes all of the necessary and manda-
tory phases for the evaluation of a scientiic article sub-
mitted to the journal, involves the entire editorial team,
organizing the information and serving as the basis for
the inal decision on whether to publish it or not.
We can guarantee, with complete certainty, that this
improvement, as well as its bimonthly frequency since
2005 – demanded by necessity, given the large number of
works received and the enormous amount of accesses to
the journal’s website – has given the RAMB an extraordi-
nary leap in the stratiication of the CAPES criteria, be-
ing the CAPES the agency that regulates Brazilian post-
-graduate studies.
The journal’s inclusion in new indexes such as Sco-
pus, the Science Citation Index Expanded (SCIE), the Web
of Science, the Institute for Scientiic Information (ISI),
and the Index Copernicus should also be credited to this
painstaking effort. Previously, the RAMB – published con-
tinuously since 1954 – was already indexed by renowned
and important scientiic indexes such as Scielo, Lilacs and
Medline.
Our printed edition publishes articles in Portuguese,
English or Spanish, and the full content of the
complete
text in English is presented simultaneously online on the
internet. The online edition of the RAMB is free and is al-
ways available at
www.ramb.org.br,after going to print
.
A large part of these innovations and, consequently,
the success achieved by the journal in recent years should
be credited to the careful work of Prof. Dr. Bruno Cara-
melli, who for 8 years – since 2006 – has worked as the
editor-in-chief. The inclusion of the RAMB among the
most renowned and respected national and internatio-
nal indexing services, especially the ISI Web of Science
(Science Citation
Index Expanded) is owed to his irm performance,
adapting the journal to the most rigid selection criteria
in order to guarantee better quality in the articles sub-
mitted. We would like to take this opportunity to public
express our sincere thanks for the work undertaken by
Prof. Dr. Bruno Caramelli.
From 2014 on, changes have been made to our jour-
nal. In addition to the editor-in-chief, the editorial board
can now count on two co-editors and one administrati-
ve co-editor. Furthermore, the new editorial board is wor-
king on expanding the number of invited reviewers, ai-
ming at greater agility in the evaluation of articles and a
consequent reduction in the response time of the evalua-
tion process for articles submitted to our journal. Like-
wise, RAMB has been undertaking a careful analysis of
the works submitted with the intention of detecting pos-
sible self-citation and/or stacking.
Finally, and as always, we are constantly searching for
quality and preservation of ethical aspects. In our area es-
pecially, this process is imperative, and the tools for rea-
ching these objectives must be constantly improved. That’s
what we are working on in this new phase: assuring that
the RAMB is among the best scientiic journals produced
in Brazil.
